Didactics of information
technology / computer science
Link to this lecture in the official
directory of the University of Zürich
The subject "information technology / computer science" has got a
special position in school. In the economy and the society etc.
computers and their use are disposable in an ubiquitous way, but this
stage is not reached in
education. This has many effects on training future teachers.
Learning targets
aquaintance of the relevant notions of didactics
(general and IT / CS) (f.e. principles, techniques, methods,
etc.)
implementation / confrontation of educational
theory in individual teaching practice.
aquaintance and use of tools and instruments for
IT / CS classes
reflection and enunciation of teaching experience
and attitude
preparation, implementation and evaluation of
assessments
training of oral communication skills

Studying
education in information technology / computer science:
An introductory course for future computer science
teachers is somewhat different
from other academic courses.
It's not so much about reproduction of knowledge, but about a role-taking for
life.
And
a teacher is very much concerned with the process of self-discovery of adolescents.
For such reasons a personal teaching
experience in a typical school is an important part of
this course.

Interdependance
of theory and practictal experience This course
is not really
comparable to a full-blown study in higher-education (f.e. at the
Institut of Gymnasial- und Berufspädagogik),
with its 3 pillars:
- theory (didactics, paedagogy, ...)
- didactics of information technology
- work experience in a real school.
Typical novice cs / it teacher errors:
- error of biography: imitation / repetition of own experiences in
school as a child / adolescent
- error of academy: reproduction of encyclopedical knowledge
- confusion between "informatics" and applications ("ict")
- disciplinary problems
It is difficult to achieve any sort of attitude change, so it is
advisable to use every occasion of teaching for developing one's own
capabilities and to make progress step by step this way.
What is the sense of ...
information technology / computer science?
This question is not only a permanent issue of discussion for
academics, but
the background of many discussions with adolescents. -
engineering science -
entertainment - game - economic factor - means for survival of
mankind - the future general
education - new means of
communication - means to an end
(organ, instrument, medium: convenient typewriter or scientific
calculator etc.) - ...
